The women reached the semi–finals, where they lost to Sweden. They then lost the bronze medal game to Japan.
The format of both the men's and women's competitions was that ten nations competed in a round robin preliminary round, with the top four nations to qualify for the medal round. In the men's tournament, Great Britain were one of three teams – along with Switzerland and the United States – that finished in a tie for third place in the preliminary round. The United States qualified by virtue of having defeated both Great Britain and Switzerland during the preliminary round, and Great Britain and Switzerland played a one–game tiebreaker. Switzerland won the tie–breaker 9–5, so Great Britain were eliminated. The United States went on to win the gold medal, beating Sweden in the final.
